Luke. 2:34Mark 15:20-22 NRSV35,51 NRSV
After mocking him, they stripped him of the purple cloak and put his own clothes on him. Then they led him out to crucify him. They compelled a passer-by, who was coming in from the country, to carry his cross; it was Simon of Cyrene, the father of Alexander and Rufus. Then they brought Jesus to the place called Golgotha (which means the place of a skull).
We adore you O ‘Christ and we bless you because by your Holy Cross you have redeemed the world.
Consider that Christ is unable to carry His Cross all alone. He is too weak, too beaten down by the experience. He has no choice but to let Simon of Cyrene, a stranger, help him. In receiving help, He is able to go on.
O’Lord may we allow others you have sent our way to lead us and help us. May we recognize you in the strangers you give to us. Let us realize that in receiving we give others a way to offer Love. Show us how to be Good Samaritans in our daily lives. Amen.
