Isaiah 53:4-6 NRSV
Surely he has borne our infirmities
and carried our diseases;
yet we accounted him stricken,
struck down by God, and afflicted.
But he was wounded for our transgressions,
crushed for our iniquities;
upon him was the punishment that made us whole,
and by his bruises we are healed.
All we like sheep have gone astray;
we have all turned to our own way,
and the Lord has laid on him
the iniquity of us all.
We adore you O ‘Christ and we bless you because by your Holy Cross you have redeemed the world.
Consider that Christ tries to carry His Cross after much torture, spitting and mockery. He struggles with emotional and physical sorrow. Our God falls just like we do under a heavy load. In His humanness He feels weak. He looks back to see if his friends and disciples are near enough to help.
O’Lord may we be willing to carry the crosses you allow in our broken lives. Give us the strength to do what is right even if we might fall, for you fall with us and you rise with us also. Thank you O’Lord that you never run away and leave us. Amen.
