Psalm 38: 17-22 NRSV
For I am ready to fall,
and my pain is ever with me.
I confess my iniquity;
I am sorry for my sin.
Those who are my foes without cause are mighty,
and many are those who hate me wrongfully.
Those who render me evil for good
are my adversaries because I follow after good.
We adore you O ‘Christ and we bless you because by your Holy Cross you have redeemed the world.
Consider that Christ is spent, exhausted: the cruel world has caused him to stop. It would be easy to give up because he cannot move. He looks back for his followers. The fringe on His garment seems heavy as if he is carrying each of us with Him. Moving forward means crucifixion.
O’Lord we come to stopping places and we want to quit. May we lean totally on your grace and strength to survive. Teach us O’Lord that you alone are enough. We ask for an undivided love in our hearts. Amen.
