Matthew 27:54-55 NRSV
Now when the centurion and those with him, who were keeping watch over Jesus, saw the earthquake and what took place, they were terrified and said, ‘Truly this man was God’s Son!’
Many women were also there, looking on from a distance; they had followed Jesus from Galilee and had provided for him.
We adore you O ‘Christ and we bless you because by your Holy Cross you have redeemed the world.
Consider that Christ is placed in the arms of His grieving Mother. She embraces the child given to her by Heaven. Clinging to the greatest gift God has ever given the world. In this image her hands touch His open heart while cactus flower petals fall as a sign of light coming into the dark earth. Mary cannot imagine letting go of the Christ child.
May we O’Lord meditate on this station when we are called to grieve great losses, when we are asked to let go and return to God what He has given to us for a time. O’Lord we are so grateful that you never let go of us. Amen.
