Luke 23: 44-46 NRSV
It was now about noon, and darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon, while the sun’s light failed; and the curtain of the temple was torn in two. Then Jesus, crying with a loud voice, said, ‘Father, into your hands I commend my spirit.’ Having said this, he breathed his last.
We adore you O ‘Christ and we bless you because by your Holy Cross you have redeemed the world.
Consider that Christ’s heart is crushed for His children. He enters into death of His physical body. This image shows Christ dying on a shield, the symbol of protection. The cactus with all its prickly thorns blooms with golden flowers. The peace pipes are burning with the sacred smoke of reconciliation.
May we O’Lord be unafraid to die in our physical body because you have gone before us. We pray for the willingness to forgive our enemies even in the midst of great pain as you did in saying, “Forgive them, Father, they know not what they are doing.” Give us the Heart O’Lord to always choose to love anyway, No Matter what. Amen
